Essential Skills:All roles: be reliable and well-organised. For telephone roles: clear speech and good hearing; good telephone manner; ability to think clearly and quickly, and grasp standard procedures. For Police Station Support Coordination: ability to think clearly and quickly and to use WhatsApp; ability to grasp procedures and to multi-task.
Desired Skills: Volunteers need access to a computer or smartphone (and for PSS coordinators, also WhatsApp); access to Zoom, preferably with a camera; competence in English language.
Accessibility considerations: This is a remote role, all you need is Wifi and a computer or smartphone. If there is anything we can do to adjust the role to better meet your needs please let us know.

Back Office happens behind the scenes, but it is an essential and rewarding part of supporting rebels during actions. It's a great role for anyone who can't join an action as you can work from home! Shifts can be fitted around your schedule, e.g. day, evening or night shifts.

The two main roles in Back Office involve:

  • Telephone support to arrestees in custody, their friends and families.
  • Arranging rotas for Police Station Supporters, mainly done using WhatsApp groups.

You can choose either role or both. Training will be provided, as well as support throughout your shifts.

The XR Arrestee and Legal Support Team has supported thousands of rebels through the arrest and court process by providing pre-action trainings, legal briefings, a 24/7 phone support line during actions where arrests are expected, and post-arrest support.
