This volunteering role is to be added to the pool of UK stewards that we then message about upcoming actions so you can decide if you are interested / available. We get requests for Stewarding support from all over the country, but most of the large events tend to be in or near London or other major cities.
Stewards help to ensure all attendees at an event are safe. On a march this would include keeping people away from traffic, supporting road closures and keeping the march together. At a static event, this would include answering questions from the public or attendees, pointing people in the right direction, or helping them find others. Stewarding is a great way to contribute to the success of an event, to interact with all the other teams involved.
We give full training (online and at the event and new stewards are buddied up with experienced stewards (we usually aim to steward in pairs anyway)We need stewards to reflect the diversity of those attending our events so we are particularly keen to recruit new stewards from diverse backgrounds and communities.
