    We know that there are people wanting to get involved with XR in the North, even in areas where there are no local groups. There are also some small local groups that need a helping hand to link them up with sources of support. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about Extinction Rebellion to work in their own local area to help potential supporters connect to XR and to help smaller local groups access support that is available to them. This role will be called the ‘Local Link’ for your area.

    Your role will vary according to your situation, and you’ll work with our ‘Gardener’ (local group support worker) to find the best approach for you. You’ll get plenty of support, including regular chats with our Gardener, access to online training and resources, plus support as needed from our regional team. This is a great entry role into Extinction Rebellion, and can be a pathway to taking on other roles and responsibilities.

    This role is particularly suited to people who have no local XR group, or if your local group needs someone to help them link up to the region. It could also be appropriate for someone who wants to build connections between XR and particular local communities – e.g. faith groups or specific neighbourhoods. (If you do have a local group, then any work will be done in collaboration with them as well as with the regional team.)

    Tasks will be decided by yourself, in collaboration with the Gardener, and your local group, if applicable. They could include (for example):

  • Distributing XR leaflets in your local area (e.g. in shops, cafes, libraries);

  • Sharing information about XR (e.g. current events and campaigns) to sympathetic local groups outside XR (e.g. environmental/social justice campaigns or community groups);

  • Gathering people together in your local area who would like to be more involved in XR (if you had no local group) and forming online chat groups/in-person socials – possibly even helping a new local group to start;

  • Attending XR UK Zoom calls to learn about national strategy or upcoming events, and then sharing information with others through chat groups or meetings;

  • Getting involved with your local XR group (if you have one) and helping them to stay connected with what’s going on regionally and nationally.

    • This is a brand new role, so applicants should be willing to have a go and see what happens!
