The UKAssemblies team is a growing and well-functioning happy team of people who are passionate about promoting assemblies to show how things can be done differently in communities and politics!

Within Extinction Rebellion’s Self-organising System, UK Assemblies is a circle within XR Operations.

UK Assemblies Scope:

  • To support Extinction Rebellion Local Groups with planning, organising, publicising, setting up and running Community Assemblies alongside their local allies.
  • To help Local Groups and alliances collate, record and share responses to Assembly recommendations to share with e.g. local councils, MPs, or others with relevant responsibilities.
  • To advise and support local groups on wider political engagement.
  • To help everyone involved in Extinction Rebellion to understand how Community Assemblies can be a deliberative democracy pathway to our Third Demand, i.e. a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice.

There are three different types of assemblies - to understand the difference between Citizens’, Community and People’s assemblies, please read this explainer on the Rebel Toolkit

The key role of the Admin person is to ensure that contributions to meeting discussions, decisions and action points, are accurately recorded and shared.
