Role commencing from November 2023, there will be a handover period where you will be able to shadow the current coordinator
The Plea Hearings Coordinator is a key part of the Court Support team. The overall objective of the Court Support team is to ensure that rebels who are charged with offences (aka defendants) are supported before, during and after court appearances.
Court support volunteers attend court with XR defendants to:
- provide emotional support and practical assistance,
- provide a visible XR presence, and
- record outcomes.
They do not give legal advice.
The Plea Hearings coordinator is responsible for:
- the maintenance of a support schedule and records;
- liaison with the defendants going to court to confirm their arrangements; and
- the recruitment and training of court support volunteers, in conjunction with the Trials Coordinator in London and the Arrestee Support Coordinators for regional plea hearings and trials.
The role involves on-line liaison with defendants, court support volunteers, and XR Arrestee & Legal Support (A&LS). This requires keeping up with comms channels and records, rather than doing the work in a single block during each week. It would be helpful if the coordinator were able to attend a few plea hearings in person, with an experienced supporter, as part of their induction (not necessarily in London), but this is not essential.
This role is being advertised by the following working group:
