The website team is the creative force behind extinctionrebellion.uk, our primary public interface with the world. Having evolved organically over the past five dynamic years, the website is now due for some more transformative work. We're assembling a new website team dedicated to reshaping it into both the bold, public face of XRUK and an efficient pathway for welcoming new activists into our movement.
As the Lead Designer, you will be the driving force behind enhancing the overall user experience of our website. Working closely with the team Coordinator, who serves as the liaison with the movement, your mission will be to translate their priority requirements into high-quality designs, providing wireframes where necessary for content managers and developers.
The role will be particularly intensive for the first approximately three months as the team addresses a backlog of significant changes to the site. Subsequently, the intensity will ease as we transition into maintenance mode, where text-based updates become the norm.
In addition to crafting solutions for specific requests, the Lead Designer will play a crucial role in shaping the overall user experience of the site. This includes advising the Coordinator on the optimal way to accommodate movement requests. While there is a UI element to the position, the XR brand is not going to change any time soon and the priority issues with the website are UX-based. So the emphasis for this role is UX design. There will be occasional opportunities for collaboration with developers on detailed UI design work, for example when coding new components into the CMS.
This role is being advertised by the following working group:
